ToeOut Performance Brake Pad Bedding In Instructions
Bedding in brakes is an important step in your new brake pad installation.
It can dramatically affect the stopping characteristics of your brake
pads as well and the pad life and quietness of the pad. Bedding removes
some of the excess adhesives that bond a brake pad together, keeping
them from being a barrier between the pad and rotor, which can decrease
the amount of friction between the pad and rotor. More importantly,
bedding actually transfers some pad material from the pad to the rotor
which increases frictional properties but also helps the rotor last
longer. Below is the typical bedding procedure we recommend. Different
brake pad manufacturers will have variations of this so please consult
with them for proper procedures.
- After installing new brake pads, make 8 to 10 light stops from
approximately 40 mph. Allow 20-30 seconds between stops for cooling
down.
- Make an additional 2 to 3 hard stops from approximately 45 to
50 mph.
- Drive for another 15 minutes using the brakes as little as possible
which allows the brake system to cool down. Avoid stopping and leaving
the brake pedal depressed.
- Allow your brakes to cool completely.
